Entrepreneur Magazine: January 2009
Subway Hits the Spot! The No. 1 franchise on our 30th Annual Franchise 500 marks some milestones of its own.
Congratulations to the entire SUBWAY® team! For the 15th time in 20
years, Entrepreneur magazine has ranked the SUBWAY® chain #1 in its
annual "Franchise 500®". The rankings are based primarily on financial
strength and stability, growth rate and size of the system. Other
factors taken into consideration include the number of years in
business, length of time franchising, start-up costs, litigation,
percentage of terminations and whether the company provides financing.
In an interview with Fred DeLuca in
the January 2007 issue of Entrepreneur, Fred talks about how
the SUBWAY® chain has stayed on top and continues to seek out
opportunities where others might see limits. Entrepreneurially minded
franchisees have come up with creative solutions to various issues and
helped develop new markets, including non-traditional locations, such
as hospitals, convenience stores and retail stores. Fred also
emphasizes our focus on international growth and the challenges and
opportunities that exist in global expansion.
