Congratulations to our franchisee in Mount Airy for earning a gold medal in the January 2012 Customer Service Olympics! Only 26 owners accross the entire Subway organization can boast a comparable achievement!! To win a gold medal, the restaurant must score between 90 and 100 percent ratings from at least 16 surveys returned during the month. This franchisee received an average score of 100 for more than 20 responses. Hard work, commitment, teamwork and pride in the brand provide great rewards!

A Family in Lincolnton, NC was chosen as a recipient of the ABC and Ty Pennington Extreme Home Makeover. The local Subway participated by donating food one day during construction and shooting. Subway had a banner in the VIP section of the construction area. The Subway team prepared 125 box meals and beverages for the cast crew and volunteers to enjoy at 2 am. The episode will air for the 2012 Christmas edition.

Subway's own Jared Fogle visited eastern North Carolina this week, touring Ft. Bragg and Camp Lejeune. Jared met with wounded service members at Ft. Bragg and also talked with men and women in the 82nd. Airborne. He visited local elementary school Johnson Elementary for a presentation with the students and was interviewed for local television and radio stations. Thanks to Jared for his continued work encouraging healthy eating habits and supporting Subway!
During a recent tragic event in Greensboro, Subway was able to provide a measure of relief to victims' families and hospital staff. Six people in the community, many of which were children, were victims of a senseless and intentional shooting spree. The hospital was called upon to support over 100 individuals associated with these patients, including family members and police. The emotional toll on all involved, including health care providers, was exceptional. The hospital Subway was able to provide large orders of food very quickly with tact and compassion. Our franchisee was personally thanked by the Director of Patient Services for their participation during this very difficult event.
Congratulations to 11 franchisees in North Carolina who earned Gold Medals during the November 2011 Customer Service Olympics. Gold medals were awarded to those restaurants that received a Customer Referral Score (CRS) of 90 - 100. At least 15 surveys must be submitted for a restaurant to be considered.
Subway's corporate Chief Development Officer explains to QSR magazine this month how Subway franchising has a positive impact on local economies. The average store creates 8 to 10 employment opportunies. The 35,000 locations worldwide also require wide ranging support services including farmers, meat growers, food processing and transportation. New stores require local construction services. Franchising allows more people the opportunity on the local level, keeping dollars in the community.

Our mix of made to order sandwiches and fresh ingredients combined with the price-friendly $5 Footlong has produced loyal customers that have noticed what separated us from the competition.
SUBWAY is the first chain to ever receive an “A” on the Eat This, Not That! Restaurant Report Card, based in part on recent initiatives such as cutting sodium by 15 percent in our regular sandwiches and 28 percent in Fresh Fit sandwiches. SUBWAY is repeatedly recognized as the “healthy alternative” in Quick Service.
Following Hurricane Irene, the governor of North Carolina Beverly Perdue visited eastern portions of the state to survey damage. She touched down first in Jones County, which had established emergency shelters for residents that also housed social services and emergency response staff. The local SUBWAY restaurant provided breakfast, lunch and dinner for 380 shelter residents for Saturday, Sunday and Monday as well as feeding 185 highway patrol, rescue and sherriff’s office employees for those three days. This extraordinary effort, completed with very limited staff, was recognized by the Governor, who personally thanked our franchisee.
As reported in the Wall Street Journal, SUBWAY officially surpassed McDonalds as the largest restaurant chain in terms of number of stores worldwide. We currently have over 24,000 restaurants in the United States which generated over $10.5 billion dollars in sales in 2010. Total stores world-wide exceed 33,000 and produced over $15 billion in revenues in 2010.
