Cancer Prevention Month Fundraiser to Launch at Local Subway® Restaurants

Local Subway® restaurants are teaming up with college basketball coaches to take a stand against cancer in a monthlong Coaches vs. Cancer fundraising campaign. The fundraiser runs the entire month of February, which is National Cancer Prevention Month.

Through February, the public is invited to visit participating Subway restaurants in Greater Charlotte and Triad areas to make a donation of any amount at the checkout to Coaches vs. Cancer. All contributions will go to support American Cancer Society local patient support programs, education and research.

“There are a lot of ways to reduce your risk of getting cancer. Being physically active and getting recommended cancer screening tests are two important steps you can take,” said Megan Nelson, executive director of the Southeast Region at the American Cancer Society. “Our efforts are attacking cancer from every angle, through research, prevention and patient services. We need your support to help realize the cancer-free world we all want.”

Participating coaches are: Tim Craft of Gardner-Webb University, Jim Fox of Appalachian State University, Jay Joyner of North Carolina A&T State University, Pat Kelsey of Winthrop University, Bob McKillop of Davidson College, Matt Matheny of Elon University, Wes Miller of UNCG, Ron Sanchez of UNC Charlotte and Tubby Smith of High Point University.

To launch the campaign, each coach will serve as a guest Sandwich Artist® at a Subway restaurant during the first week of February. The coach appearance schedule is:

Monday, Feb. 4 (World Cancer Day)

    Tuesday, Feb. 5

Wednesday, Feb. 6

“Good health is something we never want to take for granted,” said Deb Overby, a local Franchise Owner of Subway restaurants. “We appreciate everything the coaches and American Cancer Society are doing to stand against cancer, and invite the community to join us.”
